Mass media means technology that is intended to reach a mass
audience. It is the primary means of communication used to reach the vast
majority of the general public. The most common platforms for mass media are newspapers,
magazines, radio, television, and the Internet. The general public typically
relies on the mass media to provide information regarding political issues,
social issues, entertainment, and news in pop culture. My media diary only
consisted of the mediums of a phone, tablet, iPad, textbook, and my laptop.
Other than the tablet and iPad because someone else provides that, I would say
my phone is the most used. My textbook’s main use was just for my reviewing
chapters for my class. I used media throughout the entire day. From the moment
I wake up, to the moment I sleep; I’m using some type of mass media.
What I've learnt from this is that assignment is that social
media is really growing exponentially. I believe that, in terms of journalism
and communications, more and more online newspapers will be turning to social
networking machines like Facebook to help encourage people to actually read the
news instead of mindlessly updating their status'. I have yet to decide on
whether or not I think this social media take-over is a good thing or a bad
thing. Looking back, this assignment has really helped me think about how I
feel about social media and the way in which I use the media accessible to me.
It's become quite clear to me that the majority of my time revolves around
having Internet - it's very, very hard for me to think about what I'd be doing
without it. It's also evident that when it comes to social media, I’m barely on
it.
